About Cartagena

The XIV Latin Ibero American Congress on Operations Research (CLAIO 2008), will take place in the Centro de Convenciones y Exposiciones Cartagena de Indias, located in the Getsemaní sector , facing the Paseo de los Mártires, close to the Torre del Reloj, main pedestrian entrance to the historic center of Cartagena. Cartagena de Indias is a colonial city of the Latin Caribbean, located in the northeast of Colombia, of a sunny climate with an average temperature of 30°C / 86°F , and beaches of warm waters all year long, making the city a tourist destination to be enjoyed in any time of the year.

Is a city of easy access, either by air, sea or land. It has an international airport that receives flights from all over the world in different routes and connections; it has as well ports and marinas to attend the voyagers that arrive in any kind of ship, recreational, cargo or tourist cruises. The city has a great infrastructure of hotels. The Colombian Peso is the official currency, which averages at about $2.000 pesos for every American dollar. Cartagena de Indias, besides being the most important touristic center of the Colombian coast, is one of the most important business, meetings, and convention centers of the Caribbean.

Declared by UNESCO as one of the world's heritage site, Cartagena de Indias is a city where history is palpable throughout its murallas, Spanish colonial architecture, and impressive military and religious monuments that mixed harmoniously with its beautiful beaches, exotic nearby islands and meeting places such as bars, cafes, restaurants and clubs.
